About the Centre

The Symbiosis Child Learning and Development Centre is established in the memory of Late Mrs Uma Sarathchandran Former Principal, Symbiosis School. The Centre offers multi disciplinary interventions, holistic assessment and care through multidisciplinary interventions for children in the age group of 3-16 years under one roof. The Centre has a multi disciplinary team such as clinical psychologists, remedial educators, occupational therapists, speech therapists and developmental pediatricians.

Addressing a child’s emotional and mental needs is an indispensable aspect of enduring their overall wellbeing. Good mental health equips a child to build resilience, healthy coping mechanisms, high self- esteem, positive social relationships, and enhances their performance in academic and other pursuits. Recognizing the crucial role that schools play in the overall development of a child, a a=school wing was set up at SCEW, that provides psychological support to children, parents and teachers. It comprises a team Psychological Counsellors placed at various Symbiosis schools, led by Mrs. Sangeeta Rishipathak.

The role that SCEW plays in Symbiosis schools is as follows

  • To work in collaboration with school counselors for early identification of mental health issues in children and providing timely intervention..
  • To provide teaching learning and behavioural management strategies for teachers, students, and parents of symbiosis schools.
  • To empower mental health education in schools by offering specific strategies to assist students in social and emotional learning.
  • to increase collaboration between all members of the Symbiosis community including teachers,counselors and parents to ensure all aspects of a student’s development are taken into consideration.
  • to improve the psychological well-being of the teaching and non-teaching staff in schools.
  • to clinically assess the efficacy and promote professional development of the school counselors.

Child Learning and Development Centre.

There is an alarming rise in the number of cases of children suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders. If these problems are not identified in time and treated at an early age they may leave a lasting impact on them. Therefore, the Child Learning and Development centre has been established by SCEW to provide holistic care and intervention. The main objectives of the centre are

  • To assess, diagnose and provide specific interventions for children having Specific Learning Disabilities, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • To provide holistic care through collaboration with parents and teachers in treatment.
  • To help children attain the minimum competency level in academics and thus improve scholastic outcomes.
  • To increase awareness about mental health issues through parent workshops and teacher training workshops.

Centre in Charge

Sangeeta Rishipathak is a psychological counsellor and coordinator for school counsellors of all Symbiosis Schools. She has an enriched experience of working as a school counsellor for 8 years. She collaborates and works with parents, teachers and students and conducts workshops and lectures on emotional and mental wellbeing in Symbiosis schools. She specializes in remedial teaching and play therapy. She also overlooks the work done and sessions conducted at The Child Learning and Development Centre which is a holistic therapy Centre for the children between 3 to 13 years of age.

Occupational therapist room

CLDC occupational therapy room is a specialized space equipped with tools and activities designed to help individuals improve their daily functioning and independence. It provides a safe and supportive environment for therapists to address specific needs, incorporating resources for fine motor skills, sensory activities, and adaptive exercises. This dedicated space is tailored to facilitate personalized interventions aimed at enhancing clients' cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being.

Play therapy room

CLDC play therapy room is a dedicated space filled with toys and activities designed for therapeutic sessions with children. It is a child-friendly environment where therapists use play as a means for children to express emotions and work through challenges. The room is carefully arranged to encourage creative and expressive play, creating a safe and inviting setting for therapeutic interactions.

School wing

SCEW has been working in collaboration with school counselors, school teachers and parents towards early identification and intervention of various mental health issues as well as neurodevelopmental disorders in children along with enhancing mental health in schools by including specific strategies to help students in social and emotional learning. The coordinator for school counselor clinically assesses the work done by psychological counselors in schools. Under SCEW, we promote professional development of school counsellors and work towards sensitizing teachers about various mental health issues in children and ways of incorporating social emotional learning. Thus, we have been working in close co-operation with all members of the Symbiosis community including teachers, counsellors and parents, to ensure all aspects of a student’s development are taken into consideration.
