By providing a safe space for dialogue and education, these workshops contribute to building more inclusive communities and workplaces where individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of gender.
Resilience building workshops empower individuals with skills to overcome challenges and bounce back from adversity. Through interactive sessions, participants learn strategies for stress management, problem-solving, and cultivating a positive mindset. These workshops provide practical tools to adapt and thrive in the face of difficulties, promoting resilience in various aspects of life.
SCEW conducts parent orientations in the beginning of the academic year . SCEW Head Dr. Girija Mahale along with the campus counselors addresses relevant topics such as what to expect from students, changing patterns in parent-children communication, self care for parents, etc.
This week is observed internationally as "Sexual Abuse & Violence Prevention Week" from Feb 5th to Feb 11th.
NCRB data has consistently demonstrated rising numbers of sexual assaults & abuse of vulnerable populations across various states of India. Sexual abuse & violence can impact emotional well-being & mental health of the survivors, if no immediate interventions are provided.
SCEW observes world PTSD Awareness Day on 27th June, every year. PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a form of response of the person's systems to previously experienced trauma or painful situations. It affects the psychological, physical & social spheres of the affected individual. Recovery from PTSD is possible with professional & emotional support.

Every year 24th of May is observed as World Schizophrenia Awareness Day. Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness affecting more than 21 million people worldwide according to the World Health Organization. The purpose of this day is to spread awareness about this illness and eradicate the myths and superstitions around Schizophrenia and other mental illnesses in general
World Happiness Day, observed on March 20th, is a global initiative promoting the importance of happiness as a universal goal. Recognized by the United Nations, it encourages individuals and communities to prioritize well-being, mental health, and positive actions. Through events and awareness campaigns, the day aims to inspire a happier and more harmonious world, emphasizing the fundamental human right to happiness.
Kindness is a virtue that brings about humility & compassion in this rapidly evolving yet vulnerable world. Random Acts of Kindness Week (14th-20th February 2023) was observed by SCEW with the intent to bring about kindness into action for everyone. Kindness is proven to be protective of emotional well-being & to preserve the mental health of individuals as well as the community.
Group activity based on a Team Building workshop was conducted by Dr.Nabi Bostan (Assistant professor for B.Sc. Mental health) at SIHS. IThe main purpose of this team-building activity was to improve organizational skills by bringing everyone together through shared experience. Key takeaways were communication skills, self-awareness, creativity, self-discipline, and also how to realize their strengths & weaknesses while facing any challenges. Using problem-solving ability is something they could cultivate in their personal as well as professional life.
Engaging with mandala art is believed to promote relaxation, mindfulness, and self-discovery, making it a widely embraced practice for personal and creative well-being. SCEW has conducted a series of Mandala Art Workshops for students to practice mindfulness and distress.
The International Mind-Body Wellness Day encourages people to focus more on living healthy lives to maintain a balance.
Mental health support groups offer a supportive community for individuals to connect, share experiences, and find understanding. These non-judgmental spaces reduce isolation, providing a sense of validation and empowerment through open discussions facilitated by professionals or peers.
Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) uses dance and movement to support emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being. Through guided sessions, individuals explore emotions and improve body awareness. DMT provides a creative and non-verbal outlet for self-expression, offering a holistic approach to health and healing. SCEW has offered opportunities for self expression through its Dance Movement workshops.
As a part of the induction program, SCEW delivers this holistic sensitization to the new batches of SLS, Pune. This helps the students transition smoothly into this new set up by making them aware about changing environments, relationships, consent and unity in diversity.
Dealing with adolescents requires open communication, patience, and understanding. Balancing the need for independence with consistent boundaries is key. Actively listening, validating their emotions, and offering guidance without being overly controlling helps build trust. Creating a supportive environment for them to express themselves fosters a positive relationship and contributes to healthy adolescent development.
Mindfulness-based meditation is a practice centered on being fully present in the current moment. Typically, individuals focus on their breath or bodily sensations, fostering non-judgmental awareness of thoughts and feelings. This form of meditation has shown positive effects, such as stress reduction and improved concentration. Through guided sessions or techniques like mindful breathing, practitioners aim to cultivate a calm and centered state of mind for enhanced well-being.
International Self care Day is observed on the 24th of July to highlight the importance of self-care in our day-to-day moments and how a little self-care can go a long way in building a resilient community within emotionally thriving individuals. We celebrated this year by asking our staffs, faculty and students, including the Mental Health Champions of SIU to tell us about ways they pursue their self care as an opportunity for them to reflect upon its significance.
On the 21st of September, Gratitude day is observed to spread kindness and extend appreciation to everyone who has contributed to our lives.

World Autism Awareness Day is observed on 2nd April 2023 to highlight the importance of improving the quality of life of individuals with autism so they can lead a meaningful & fulfilling life as an integral part of the community. On this day Symbiosis Centre for Emotional Well-Being (SCEW) has created a video emphasizing the signs and symptoms of autism and different intervention strategies to integrate the persons living with autism into our society and make it inclusive.
‘Yeh merry family: can’t live with, can’t live without’ was a webinar conducted on the occasion of International Day of Families observed on 13th May 2022 which addressed the changing family dynamics and communication pattern within the families.
PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) can affect mental health due to hormonal imbalances, potentially leading to mood swings and emotional challenges. Symptoms like irregular periods and fertility concerns may impact self-esteem. Managing PCOS involves not only addressing physical aspects but also prioritizing mental well-being through support networks and a healthy lifestyle.
An Induction event conducted on the Bangalore Campus, 'Come As You Are' aimed to instill inclusivity and emotional intelligence in the incoming student cohort. In a concerted effort to prioritize student well-being, SCEW Counsellors recently hosted a profound support group session under the banner of "Wanna Talk." Focused on addressing the prevalent challenges of loneliness and anxiety, this empathetic gathering aimed to provide a safe space for students to share, connect, and build resilience. This monthly event, held in a confidential and judgment-free environment, emphasized the importance of dialogue in overcoming the emotional hurdles of loneliness and anxiety. By creating a platform for shared experiences and mutual support, "Wanna Talk" served as a valuable resource for enhancing mental well-being among our student body
International Men's Day is observed on 19th November to address issues faced by men and boys, whether it is regarding physical and mental health or social and labor problems. It also aims to patiently attempt to remove the negative stigma associated with masculinity in our society and help bring society closer to gender equality.
Let's make a noise for Anti-Bullying Week which is celebrated every year from 13th November to 17th November. Bullying can cause feelings of rejection, exclusion, isolation, low self-esteem, depression and anxiety as a result. In some cases, it can even develop into Acute Stress Disorder or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In an attempt to spread awareness and curb bullying, we at Symbiosis Centre for emotional Wellbeing collaborated with our Mental Health Champions to express ourselves on bullying.
